Snowshoe Direct Mounting

Dion Snowshoe Direct Mounting

I am publishing this because when I was trying to mount my shoes I was hard pressed to find any information online showing detail on how to direct mount shoes to your snowshoes.
This may be vague in step by step how-to but hopefully these pictures and my list of hardware are helpful.  Maybe when I have time, I'll go back and edit this to include step by step instructions.
Hope this helps and please ask questions in the comments if you have them.

Materials Needed:

  • (4) 10-32 X 1/2 Stainless Steel Button Head with 1/8” Hex Key
    • Depending on the thickness of the outsole. The shoes shown have a 13mm forefoot stack height and I used a 1/2" length bolt. Thicker shoes will require a 3/4” bolt.  These would be good for shoes with 20mm stack height.
  • (4) 10-32 9/32 X 3/4 Stainless Steel Long Prong Nut (aka T-Nut)
    • Note that the diameter of this is 3/4" and the depth is 9/32".  You'll need to drill at least a .19" hole to press the nut into the shoe.  You may want to drill a smaller pilot hole to start.
  • (4) 5/32 X 7/8 Stainless Steel Fender Washer
  • Loctite
  • Drill and various drill bits
  • Allen head wrench
  • Sharpie to mark location of holes on shoe

The Orange strap of the snowshoe is the pivot point so you want to line the shoe up so that the ball of your forefoot is right over top of that.
Use the holes on the strap to mark the shoes with a Sharpie so you can drill in the right spots for the bolts to go through.

Note ball of foot is lined up with orange strap.

You'll want to put the insole back in the shoe so you don't feel the hardware.

Here are a few videos I found that might be helpful although they are not using the same snowshoe and the mounting technique is different.
